OPSI talks all things Innovation Facets at the European Court of Auditors

On 26 September 2019, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants organised a conference titled Creating value and driving sustainability, accountability and the digital agenda through Public Sector Innovation at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg. The conference was organised to launch its report on ‘Innovation in Public Finance‘.

OPSI’s own Piret Tõnurist spoke at the conference, as part of the impressive line-up of experts who interrogated the  assumption that ‘innovation’ and the ‘public sector’ are antithetical. Indeed, the public sector can, and should, be a driver of innovation. The focus was on how to cultivate public sector innovation and speakers made the strong case that although creating innovation through governments is the harder route, it often creates the most enduring impact on society.

Piret explained the OPSI Innovation Facet model and argued that there are different kinds of innovation, requiring different forms of support. Consequentially, governments should cultivate a variety of approaches to innovation (both top-down and bottom-up) in the public sector.
